Rhyn + Yvette
+ Ben Willis + Manuela Mogavero

Yvette- Female fronted combo doing an understated soul pop thang- pretty pleasant, laid back, jazzy kinda vibes- somewhere between Linda Lewis and Minnie Ripperton.

Ms Manuela- songstrel with acoustic backing, very good voice, powerful but soulful.

GetDarkerTV #117 - SEVEN, PROXIMAS, IMPERIAL

Also this week Proximas played a set at the legendary instituion that is GET DARKER.

Proximas discovered his true passion lay with dubstep through Sheffield's well renowned club night The Tuesday Club. As a regular at the Tuesday Club, Proximas became acquainted with Tuesday club resident Andy H, who is one half of the brain behind First Word Records and has been an inspiration and been guiding Proximas to pursue his music further.

Never one to sit back and wait for things to happen, Proximas is a self taught producer who spent most of his time as a youth experimenting with music when he got his first copy of Sonic Foundry's Acid Pro.

He started off playing sets at campus and private parties back in his student days at the University of Sheffield. He then managed to secure s residency at urban nights around Sheffield.

After 3 years of playing at different venues and meeting artists he is ready to launch a mark on the music industry. His love for music and production started off as an outlet for expression, which evolved to be the guiding passion he strives for.

This is very much audible in his ability to capture the hypnotic and volatile essence of sound in a cultivated fusion of pure live instruments and raging modern day electronic synths. Proximas’ music trend reflects the fusion of different tastes and music choices of his listeners.

The sound he carries is intense with influences ranging from legends such as David Bowie and Quincy Jones to the infamous UK urban producers such as Shy FX, Skream, Benga, Maniac, True Tiger and Lewi White.

Album review: FabricLive54:David Rodigan

"I deliberately avoided the obvious tracks which have appeared repeatedly on reggae compilation albums over the years. fabric, the club, and fabric the record label, is at the cutting edge of music and so I wanted to uphold that legacy with my album."
David Rodigan

FABRICLIVE.54:David Rodigan
Fabriclive
2010
***** 5 stars

FabricLive is as FabricLive does…..Always cutting edge but with a nod the tradition. The current Series of FabricLive has covered all forms of club trends and has “globetrotted” from Harlem to London via Tokyo.

The edition of the catalog I have my hands on is the selection by a legend and pioneer in the Dancehall scene. We are talking about none other than David Rodigan. Possibly the best known DJ from the reggae scene, haters might cite his ethnicity as a key reason for his steady progression to the top and his dominance of the genre.

This of course this would over look the many StoneLove Clashes, the fact that he has played Kiss FM, Capital and Radio London (for our readers who are old enough). His effortless cool led him to be sampled by this current generation in a warped take on bass culture as a vocal on Breakages wonderful Bass odyssey “Together” which was later Vocaled by UK Rap veterans the Newham Generals.

The selection of tracks takes the listener on a journey from present day artists such as (Baby)Cham, Collie Buddz and Shaggy via a reworking of a classic track by Cadenza and all the way back to King Tubby which is the kind of thing I would find in my father’s record collection. Which brings me to another point, Dancehall music is often vilified for portrayal of violence and misogynistic lyricism however Rodigan seems to be able to pull the strands of fabric which speak through the generations and touch on themes like religion, love, politics and of course marijuana.

One thing I would like to ring the alarm about is that Sister Nancy - Bam Bam was left off the album, which did leave me quite angry until the dub come save me.

Peace.

The album is 10:00 ukp and can be purchased from the fabriclondon.com online store as an mp3 or physical.

VERSA BEATZ AND YOUNG DC MIXTAPE REVIEW BY STACE

The Supplierz feature

Dirty Danga, Tinchy Stryder & Words - Fleestyle [PRODUCED BY VERSA BEATZ] by VERSABEATZ

With the current wave of success that's sweeping the UK music scene, is it any surprise that hidden gems creep up out of the wood work from time to time? I guess that's exactly what I'd call this compilation of tracks produced by The Supplierz. Featuring a host of talented artists from the UK including Tinchy Stryder, Krept and Konan, Sway and G-Frsh

Sway - Popular [Prod By VersA Beatz] by VERSABEATZ

The Supplierz bring us a solid record of the finest beats and production. It's obvious to see that The Supplierz have perfected their craft in that this EP is somewhat faultless - a complete vibe. There's a track for any and everyone - Highs and Lows by Pak Man along with Around Here being some of the standout tracks for me. And while it's clear that there are some American influences; almost a J.U.S.T.I.C.E League and Bangladesh fusion - the signature UK sound still remains. Overall a solid effort from The Supplierz.

Bravo.

iNDUSTRY iNSIDER eXPOSE vOLUME II

The second of our industry interviews is a bit special, fresh from Kingston, JA, we land in Nottingham, northen England to meet a team froned by a Manager and her flagship artist. A bit of a special interview as we get to talk with both of sides of the artist manager equation at the same time :). wORDs by our friends @ StarRich (facebook.com/getstarrich)
 ::Tiger

StarRich:: Break down the name of your entity… Light Commissionerz:

Emily Ilet  :: Light Commissionerz is an umbrella, which brings together music production/ artists/ management/ song writing/ video productions/ 3d animation to one source aka LC. We are a indie label, myself as Business manager and Lee is the creative manager. It serves as a creative outlet for us and other artists within Nottingham
Lee Ramsey ::So how did the name come about??  Easy its really what we do, bring light to the music scene our videos are far from your typical music videos. We really want to take you into the songs and illuminate your minds to the unlimited possibilities of creation.
(SR) You can Follow on http://twitter.com/lightcommission

SR::What would you say your role in the music industry is?

LR::Our role in the music scene is to bring back a little diversity and creativity whilst making some great music. Everyone sounds so much the same these days not just vocally but production as well you look at most urban UK acts that reach number one their all basically rhyming over euro pop tracks! No disrespect to the artists doing their thing get that money!!  We bring a 360 DIY music project from production/ writing / videos to management all created under one roof who else can say that

SR:: how did you arrive at this point in your career and did you ever thing you would be a manager

EI ::No never, I stumbled into this, all thanks to Lee. I am a manager in my day job and enjoy it, running projects, managing people I guess I like being organized.  I met Lee and liked his music, as I got to know him I acknowledged the talent he has.  He needed help to get organized and get things started for real. I ‘m here because I believe in Lee not to take on a roster of bands. I’m enjoying it and it certainly isn’t a standard 9-5 same old same old. Bring it on.
LR :: I’ve been making music since the early 90s from being on the Tim Westwood radio 1 rap show the week after Biggie Smalls was on with Craig Mac. Over the years becoming well known on the UK Hip Hop scene I’ve done shows at the Subterrania with DJ 279 supporting Talib Kweli also supported DJ Premiere/Gangstar and many more so I feel its simple progression that I would delve deeper into the back garden of music being apart of the business side of things. I like the production side of music and work closely with Denzie better known for the garage anthem "I’m sorry". I produce and co write the material appearing on some of the tracks. Denzie will be dropping his new material in the year.

SR::what is your hood like? Do you love your hood or hate it?? Give me 1 thing you love about it, and 1 thing you hate.

EI :: Nottingham is a great place to live, I have lived here for 13yrs now.  I have moved around Notts a lot, everywhere I have lived I have liked, each place having a different atmosphere and feel. The city always has lots happening, in the town centre or on Forest Park, it is diverse place and I like that. I have set up home on a good street, with good people around. I’m happy here.
LR ::I have lived in Notts all my life. It’s a good city, I live on a chilled street and my street has to live the sounds of heavy drums and melodic sounds. I love it when my neighbors turn their music up to drown mine out on their little tin box system and with a slight push of the fader on the mixing desk I make the walls shake lol

SR::what would you change bout it if you were in control?

(LC)::Light Commissionerz isn’t here to change our city we are here to add to it. People will always be people and do they own thing. We are here to do ours and that is to be creative. We look to move forward if people get inspired by what we do brilliant.  It would be good to open some doors for Nottingham people. We want people to like what we’re about but we won’t wait for anyone we got to keep focused and moving forward.

SR:: apart from the politics whats the music industry like in Nottingham?

(LC)::We don’t really have an industry down here. We have a small scene building up again. It used to be great in the 90s Nottingham was on the map some how over the last 8 years we've gone off the radar. Light Commissionerz will bring that spark back there are allot of artists each doing their own thing.  It may take LC to find away through then we can open the floodgates for all to come with.

SR::do you have any current releases?? You also manage some artists, please tell me more about them….

(LC) :: Yes we have the Lowstarr album coming real soon, it will be out mid summer time. It is sounding really good we have two singles ready for radio “orchestra minded” for the hiphop heads and then “rain dance” more radio friendly.  Both will be on radio very soon over the next few weeks tune in to radio 1xtra Raskwame show, kiss fm Shorty Blitz show and choice fm DJ 279 show. We don’t manange any artists currently but we do work with Denzy and have some new material in the pipeline.  Any info will be available on my website.

SR:: Any shout outs??
Shouts to everyone supporting our music and creative vision all the DJ’s, promoters big up Joe Buddah, Nick Stez, Andy Zouter & Elements studios, Big Trev- CRS, Courtney and Take1 studios, Arkeye hoods up ow ya mean Skinnyman oi oi we’re coming down soon!

LC :: Emily Ilett and Lee Ramsay

kanye west ft jay z, travis barker - h.a.m

Who is Calliko?

Who is Calliko?
Calliko is a small town kid with big city dreams. A hometown hero best describes my motives and mission to succeed with music. I am the voice of every artist from a smaller area where taking your music career to the next level isn't the norm and failure is accepted. I came to defy the odds.

You've been associated with Twista for a while. How does it feel to be compared to him?
Being compared to Twista is an amazing feeling. Ever since he gave me the name Calliko, I always felt like my major breakthrough was going to be influenced by him somehow, someway. 10 years later, that gut feeling has turned into a reality and I am appreciative for everything I learned from him and his camp.
The mid-West has produced many great rappers.

How has this influenced you?
Me being from the mid-West has influenced my entire upbringing and has made a major impact on the development of my style. I grew up listening to 2Pac and idolizing the pictures he painted of a society I was accustomed to. I also had a cult-like following for Twista and Do or Die growin up because they were from Illinois like myself and I could relate to everything they spoke of because I'd seen it on a daily basis. Bring all those major artists together and you get Calliko.

Tell us about your mixtape 'The Departure'.
The Departure mixtape was initially supposed to be my take-off mixtape that was going to push me over the top and welcome me to the mainstream. Some bad business decisions were made and the demand of the record forced our company to put the record out early. Due to the improper planning we pulled the record and now are coming out with "The Layover". The meaning behind the title is, when your departure becomes delayed at the airport gives you a new ETA (estimated time of arrival) and in between that ETA you have 'The Layover'. I feel like that is where I am with this new project.

Calliko - Whip It Around (feat. Wiz Khalifa) by nochasermusic

'Whip It Around' looks set to be a breakthrough track for you - would you say there's more pressure on you now?
I most definitely think there is more pressure on me now. But I perform better under pressure! I used to play a lot of sports and I am used to watching the clock. I feel like God has a plan for me and nothing can interrupt God's plan for any of us. So I will follow the path He chose for me and give 110% throughout it all.

Are you worried that hip hop fans may just see you as "another Wiz Khalifa"?
Not at all! I think the fans are excited to hear an unknown kid on a track with Wiz Khalifa holding his own. Most of the feedback I got from the record was how I owned the track in my own way. Wiz and I have two completely different styles and lanes. When we come together it's magic. But this magician has A LOT more tricks up his sleeve! Ha ha!

You're working hard, collaborating with different artists in the US. Do you see yourself coming over to England in the future?
To be honest, its always been a dream of mine to perform, work, and collaborate with artists in the UK and overseas in general. I am looking forward to booking events, shows, and release parties in that region soon.
Thanks Calliko and we look forward to hearing loads more from you soon!
Be on the look out for Calliko's upcoming mixtape 'The Layover' out soon!
